Another "Scotty Brown"

Another Scott Brown???

Me Thinks. ---- What else, yes and no. !!!!

Anthony (The Dick) Weiner is out and a special election is slated for Sept. 13 this year. The place -- the 9th Congressional District of NY. The Democrat candidate is David Weprin --- a typical East Coast Liberal who would vote in lockstep with President Obama. His opponent was non-existent as this is a heavily Democratic strong hold until Bob Turner (a conservative Republican) stood up and decided to run.

But wait a minute hold your “jack-asses” or “Donkeys” or whatever you call them !!!
Former Mayor of NY Ed. Koch has endorsed this Republican who decided to run against the Democrat. Here is the link to Mayor Koch’s letter.

--------------
The Former Mayor has taken the words right out of my mouth when he claims this election should be a referendum on the Obama Administration, and that this “Special Election” if won by a Republican would make the boldest statement. The difference of course is that he is talking about the Special Election this Sept. and I am talking about the National election next year.

Mr. Koch has added his graffiti to the “writing already on the wall”. The policies and leadership from the Obama administration have failed and the people on both sides are waking up to the fact. Mr. Koch seems to be trying to save his party from the Radical Left who is taking the Country and the Dems over the cliff.

After reading the reasoning Ed Koch made for his choice; especially the Medicare and social security part, I found myself thinking that Bob Turner the Republican Koch is endorsing may just be another Scotty Brown. (a liberal Republican). He may be, but I really doubt it.

Look for example at Turner’s web site and his response to Mayor Koch’s endorsement. While excited about it Bob Truner’s spin on the Medicare and Social Security aspect seems more believable and that Koch is only doing some wishful thinking.

------------------------
Mr. Turner seems like a true conservative unlike Scotty Brown. In fact Turner may turn into the “Democrat Scotty Brown”. A flip side if you will. In other words Turner if elected by Democrats because they believed Ed Koch in that Turner will vote against the “gutting” of Medicare and Social Security by the Republicans as Mr. Koch suggested he will do, may be bitterly disappointed just as Scotty Brown disappointed the Conservatives by voting for Obama Care.

Whether Koch’s endorsement is enough for Turner to pull this upset off; only time will tell, but I doubt it. What I do know is that the conservatives that got behind Scotty Brown need to do the same for Turner and that could turn the tide. That may or may not happen.

I for one hope that the once burnt Conservatives who set their hopes and rallied from across the country for Scotty Brown will look at this “Special Election” as not only special but different and will not be twice shy.

I for one in far off Hesperia Mi. will donate my $25.00 as I did for Scotty Brown, hoping for the same victory and even better results.

Let us conservatives also remember that while the “Special Election” of Scotty Brown was disappointing in its actual effects; it did presage and set the stage for the Conservative Revolution of 2010 and showed us that we could mobilize and win elections. It gave us a blueprint. Don’t forget that before then only the diehard conservatives believed we had a chance to survive in 2010.

Let's pick up that blueprint again.

I believe we have an even better chance to set the stage again. On top of that we can truly with Mr. Koch’s help make this and the 2012 elections a blaring indictment of the Obama administration.

Let’s not let our “knees jerk” and throw us off the course of common sense.

The coming elections ARE and NEED to be a referendum on the Obama Administration.

Now if only the Conservatives could get a Christie/Bachman ticket I’d be in Heaven.

I'm not sure I trust Turner on entitlements. He committed to not cut Medicare in a press release and Social Security in an interview. He also came out against Paul Ryan's budget.

Gotham, nice article you wrote by someone closer to the action. I note that the last part of your arguement was that you would vote for Turner but wouldn't like it much.
I didn't mention the Jewish thing but am really behind Koch on that one.
Wasn't Turner in the NY Conservative Party? Thought I read that somewhere.
Talked with Turner's brother Kevin and he seemed to back up what you say about the entitlements. However still compared to Brown Turner seems to be the more conservative.

Around here I'm seeing the TPs becoming pretty uncompromising and I don't think that is good for us. When I hear comments like Chrisie is just another East Coast liberal like Scotty Brown, I get upset and wonder if I can shoot myself in the other foot quick enough. LOL

Thanks for the insights.

Turner was the Conservative Party pick (actually, before he was the Republican party pick). And I generally agree with you that some Tea Partiers can be a bit uncompromising. Calling Christie a liberal is absurd--the man's great.

However, entitlements like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid go to the very heart of how big our government is going to be and its role in our lives. Medicare and Social Security in particular are going to be huge in the near future. If you start your career saying that those three are off limits, I think it's really hard to fight for a smaller government.

That being said, better to vote for him than Weprin at this point, and I would if I lived in that part of Brooklyn or in Queens.

I bet he'll be better than Scott Brown though if elected. My bar is just somewhere between Brown and Christie

Thanks Gotham,

I agree, "It's the Spending Stupid" and we do spend the most on entitlements; that is where cutting needs to be done. Obamacare needs to go too. Did you catch that Ohioans got nearly 1/2 million signatures to put an anti Obamacare piece on the ballot. In Michigan we tried but couldn't get the volunteers to get the sigs. We only got a couple hundred thousand.

You point out the old conundrum. To start the career you first have to get elected. Perhaps that is why politicians are so good at not doing what they say they'll do and doing what they say they won't.

Do you have a link to the "press release" and interview where you first mentioned "not cutting". I just want to see how specific he was about it.

Anyway, have faith in the people, the politicians will follow; the new media is waking them both up plus giving us the tools needed to get the facts out there so we all can be Revolutionaries wherever we live.

PS saw and talked with Ann Coulter in an event in Michigan(book signing) I never saw such a pro Christie person. She is indeed a smart, quick and articulate person. There may be hope yet.

I do. Press Release: "As a member of Congress, I will fight to preserve Medicare as we know it by overturning Obamacare." Admittedly, he's promising to overturn Obamacare here, but he's also promising to preserve Medicare as we know it. I found out he came out against the Ryan plan separately.

Looks like the Social Seurity thing wasn't an interview--it was a public meeting: "As Lindenwood residents showed concern over talk of Social Security cuts circulating through Washington, Weprin said, 'If elected, I would fight for no cuts and cost of living increases for Social Security.' Turner agreed, saying that social security is a senior citizen’s entitlement." Same level of reliability, but I'll edit my blog. Thanks!

Gotham again thanks for the research. You got me digging into the race some more.
Looks like a fun one. Turner with Koch making it an Israel issue and Weprin is Jewish. Turner's brother did tell me when asked about SS that it was only fair not to break promises to those who paid in. I took that to mean that like most Republicans SS our biggest entitlement is off the table except tinkering with the bennefits to those not in the system yet.
Anyway I'm still sending in the $25.00 as I see Turner as the better of the two.

I realize this race is far less important than the Senate Scott Brown race was.

My point is rather that being a special election it can be used as an indication of the electorate especially if Turner wins in a Liberal strong hold. Also of equal importance is that Koch trying to make it a referendum on Obama. For those two reasons, I'm still hoping for the upset.

Early and special elections last cycle gave us surprise upsets in Mass, W.Virginia and NJ to name a few which seemed to accurately reflect the upcoming 2010 elections.

Haven't seen any recent poll #s yet, so I'm not sure it's even feasible in NY Nine's case.

In Michigan where I live we have been doing what we can from the "Bottom Up" to get grassroots fired up to "Dump Debbie" (US Senator Debbie Stabenow that is). The primary is heating up already. I've made up and passed out a couple hundred buttons to "Dump Debbie".

Some more news on the race: Turner came out for a Balanced Budget Amendment and for vouchers.

To be honest, I was more than a little concerned last week when he indicated that he would support tax increases by closing loopholes. I guess he's an inconsistent fiscal conservative, which is worth supporting in NY-9.

I haven't seen any polls in NY-9, but I think this is doable. he got 40% of the vote against a pre-scandal incumbent Weiner without much help from the national party.
