English the Official National Language????

The House and Senate each have a bill pending about just that.

Same site for Senate bill 2715

-----
The house bill is in the Education and Labor committer. I Emailed Rep. Hoekstra from our district about the bill, as he is a member of that committee, will let you know what he says.
--
English as the National language is a plank in Newt Gingrich’s “The Platform of the American People” In his book “Real Change” he states 87% of the American people are in favor of English as the National language.

I personally don’t think it has much of a chance. The President, and the 3 leading candidates for his office are all against it.
I am in favor of it.

DAILY STUFF

Found this site about film reviews prejudiced with a conservative eye as opposed to all the other’s and their prejudices.

I am putting it in with my other list of links.
Couple of Questions.
1. Does anyone have a similar link to Conservative BOOK reviews.
2. I don’t get HBO. Does anyone have an opinion on the mini series “John Adams“. Is it true to the Federalist papers, for example.

Found this link on you tube - really funny. I can’t help but think of hoe people, me included, tend to view change.

Hey Detroit won another one that’s two. Starting to look like a team again. What about Inge and Clete. I for one am glad they got a chance to play. Out of the big deal trades only Cabrera (SP) seems to be working out but he can hardly run the bases. But he is getting on them lol that’s a good thing no?

"VISIONS"

My blog today is about the difference between the visions of Liberals and Conservatives as portrayed in Thomas Sowell’s brilliant book. A Conflict of Visions. Link to most of the text so you can read it is below.
---------------------
http://books.google.com/books?id=NwrWDM8FW04C&dq=a+conflict+in+visions&pg=PP1&ots=bHYwuxLJ33&sig=utggDpA_4v5PmV7xp-vMhMygJas&hl=en&prev=http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4ADBR_enUS269US269&q=A+Conflict+in+visions&sa=X&oi=print&ct=title&cad=one-book-with-thumbnail#PPP1,M1
---------------------
I haven’t read it all yet.
It’s pretty heavy slow reading for me.
Seems to be non partisan. He is a conservative but he is trying to state both sides. Below is a link to his web site.
---------------------
http://www.townhall.com/columnists/thomassowell/archive.shtml
---------------
I truly have been captivated with this book so far, even ordered one through Amazon.
His logic seems impeccable, but more than that he has cut through all the layers of partisanship clichés on both sides and told it for what it is.
There are two different views or “vision” of how people basically look at the world and human nature.
One is a constrained (Conservative) view which claims that human nature cannot be changed and that this causes problems in society so some sort of constraints (or trade-offs read compromises) have to be in place to hold a society together.
The other view or “vision” is the unconstrained view which claims that human nature can be changed and that change will take care of the problems in society. One “vision” deals with solutions to human nature and the other deals with trade offs.
I really cannot do justice to his work. Please read the first twenty or so pages, I warn you it’ll be a struggle. Especially if you are looking for clichés ect. This is an original work to be judged on what it says not what people think it might hint at.
As I said I’ve been captivated by this book. All day in all my musing, writing and interactions with others, this book has filtered through and given me pause in my actions. Rarely does a book affect me this much. Just like a movie I’ve seen, that I can't get out of my mind.
I will talk more on these “visions” lol later.

The John McCain I Would Love To See

The John McCain I Would Love To See.

Dick Morris in a Newsmax article below, talked about how John McCain during this time of strife in the Democratic party, needs to step up and start fighting for ideas that would turn his candidacy into a populist based one. This is the best proposed set of ideas I have seen yet that could really help John McCain take back control of the campaign. I hope John listens. I know I would.

Some Needed Relief for the Real Estate Market

Below you’ll find some links about some conservative initiatives at the state level to create a more user friendly gov. and try to get some help for our state economy.

Transparency in how the money is spent gives a chance for the voter to see for themselves .

A good albeit small shot in the arm to the real estate market, and home buyers

Notice that the tax relief is only temporary (33months) A reasonable approach IMO. This may not change the world but it is a step in the right direction. Hopes the State House goes along.

IT'S NOT MY FAULT

If you wonder why I said in my last post, “I hope that the thoughts in the movie never die out.” below is a link that helps explain my pessimism. Do people want to live up to the responsibility of freedom or just give it all to government? (Accepting the consequences)

Here is the crucial snippet from the article

By Christopher Caldwell

This week’s New York Times/CBS poll, which showed Americans more pessimistic about their country’s prospects than they have been in decades, yielded a puzzling figure. In the midst of a spreading credit crisis, barely a quarter of Americans (28 per cent) blame the banks that made bad loans and even fewer (14 per cent) blame borrowers. A big plurality (40 per cent) blame government. It is hard to know how to read this sentiment. Maybe regulatory activism has come back into vogue. Maybe Americans are clinging to their view that there is no social predicament so dire that government intervention will not make it worse

Common Sense tells me the borrower and the lender are the culprits. If push comes to shove I would say that buyer beware is still the operative thought.

He tallks near the end about the meaning of the wording in regards to whether the Framers meant the right for an individual to bear arms or only for the state to form an armed militia. The current supreme court case is deciding that issue among others right now.

I’m waiting for the decision. I hope it is a clear cut one. Of course I’m against gun control laws in general. We have enough laws. Just enforce them. Just because the government can’t live up to what it is supposed to do, We shouldn’t let government “dumb down” the Bill of Rights to make it look good.
