Can any Black Republican or urban conservative show me, other than Condoleeza Rice, that is possibly preparing to become one of the most powerful women in the world? We cannot even do a good job in showcasing our conservative sisters who are doing something in our own backyard. I cannot believe how silent Black Republicans are in Michigan about Karen Buie, the Muskegon County Clerk, in Muskegon, MI. Here is a fine, intelligent, Black woman, who is a COUNTY CLERK and NO ONE knows who she is on this side of the state (except for a very few people). That is absolutely ridiculous and totally unacceptable.

Bad links
Well I've been spending a long time just trying to get around in that maze we call a computer. Just posted or changed the site by listing links I find usefull.

The link to Rightalk. won't come up on my computer. It never did. The homepage comes up but the buttons for the various channels don't happen when clicked. A couple months ago when I had that problem I called the #in Wyoming and spent 3 hours talking with the program director mainly about politics and what they were trying to do with Rightalk. He said he was trying to set up an alternative to NPR. They are in their early stages.

Anyway we did figure out a way to get each channel on their site as an icon on my desktop, so now I have 5 icons on my desktop that when clicked take me to that individual channel. Quite a rigamarole. Please don't ask how we did that as I can't begin to remember how.

Later I found out from my computer guy at MouseHouse, (nice guy, nice business) that the problem was my browser which was Windows Vista, which he said treats most things as if it were a virus and will not let you go there. He installed Firefox as a secondary browser. If you have Vista you may have to do the same thing.

Just Do It. Core Truths
How Do We Get Back To Core Beliefs
JUST DO IT
Going along with my previous post “fighting fire with fire”, I want to lay out some of my thoughts about how do we as conservatives keep our core beliefs. As Gandhi might say our truths. Congressman Hoekstra is talking about the lengths that the republican party has fallen away from the conservative principles (Truths) that brought the House back to Republicans and then gives us some clues why we recently let it fall back into liberal hands.

But it isn’t going to happen without the people at the grassroots level who will have to make a mighty clamor and ruckus. As Pete talked about at the national level he has to find “troublesome young men” in the House, we to have to be troublesome in order for things to start to change. (Well troublesome is getting closer to “Living Dangerously”)

I liked how he admitted that the republicans in general had let the people down who put them into office, by not following through with the contract with America. That they feel let down now because the Congressional Republicans are not fighting for change but seemingly compromising their way out of work and our country out of hope. They seem to be doing all the bad things that the liberals were doing. In movies when the bad guy is asked why he did such terrible things the punch line usually reads “because I could” and that seems to be the justification for doing evil things all too often. It happens when people quit believing in their accepted truths. To change this behavior, a strong ground swell from troubled people at the grass roots will be needed to get the momentum of the left stopped and moving our way again.

Sometimes I feel really small and not up to the task. But all that is only fear and if I hark back to Gandhi I will fear only God. The strength of the Truths will guide me.

What are those truths? The “self evident” ones are obvious and most people know because they are in the Declaration of Independence.

Gee couldn’t of said it better myself. Lists the rights of man and says why Government exists.
Now I see that there is talk of A Creator. So I think that it follows that If I used the 10 Commandments as the basis for law I would be on safe ground. My truths that I follow first have to be grounded in the 10 Commandments. So there is my recipe for how I should face and react to the world. Simple huh? Well maybe simply said, but it is impossible in the doing. In politics, I say the less government, the easier it is for people to keep their “self-evident” rights to life and freedom and the better able they are to pursue their happiness. Government needs only to be large enough to secure our lives (Life) freedom (Liberty) and our ability to try to be happy (Pursuit of Happiness). The Declaration says that the purpose of Government is to secure those rights. Basically I believe that the government’s job is to make enforceable laws to secure those rights for it’s citizens. ME. I think the 10 Commandments has served in our past as a guide for our laws and I see no reason to change that. As far as the Bill of Rights and the newer Amendments in the Constitution, they are there and need to be followed. Link to first 10 below. Well that’s step one. Naming what my core beliefs are. From that all else will flow I think. There are some sticky wickets but I’ll figure those out later. I must remember Covey’s mantra. Listen Learn Help and (then) Lead. I added the “then” as I’m only at the Listen and Learn stage.

Well try to listen if you can, I’m so against big government et al. that I find it hard to even say anything positive about Al Gore. I guess though I have to go back to Listen Learn and maybe I can help Al Gore out of his misery. Hey I’m not perfect yet either. I think I’ll see if I can pick up a copy of the environmental book on E Bay that Newt talked about. I need to get a good environmental alternative to Al Gore. Newt’s web site and his Solutions really make a lot of sense. I’ve learned a lot there.

Fighting fire with fire is not always necessary
Why the Hate
Why is there hatred from the left towards President Bush? It is not just towards Bush, but toward anyone allied with Bush. For example Cheney, Rove, Ashcroft , Rumsfeld , Trent Lot even Condi, and Clarence Thomas. (That muckraking made me ashamed to be an American ). Take that hate to the grass root political level and the hate seems to follow along. At that level it is just as virulent however depending on where you’re at it can be much cruder. What makes people turn to that typical hate spewing rhetoric one sees so often in political discussions.

I feel that when people don’t know what next to say in an argument that often times they will resort to name calling ect. I think that this culture has gotten so polarized that people are afraid to admit when they are wrong, and therefore start the rhetoric up instead.

What is the answer to that? I don’t really know of a magic solution that works all the time however here are some tips that work with me. I’ve started to learn how to talk with people by studying Stephen Covey and Newt Gingrich.

In Scot M. Faulkner’s excellent book Naked Emperors; he points out that Newt Gingrich used the mantra he learned from Covey of “LISTEN, LEARN, HELP, AND LEAD”, in his rise to power in the House. After studying some on the internet about Covey I learned about his favorite person Gandhi. Below is a link to the Gandhi/Covey piece.

Wow! Just think if I could truly believe all of the above and follow it as much as I can what a different person I would be. Looking over that list I realized that an unshakable belief in what truth is, (as in we hold these truths to be self evident) was necessary to be able to follow that creed.

On conservative talk shows (you know which ones) there is a lot of talk about how conservatives have core beliefs (of right and wrong, good and bad, and truth and untruth). It also seems obvious that when we stray from those core beliefs we as conservatives tend to lose our way. People have said that Barry Goldwater lost because he wouldn’t compromise his beliefs. If one looks at conservatism as a truth vs. Goldwater as an individual, conservatism was actually gaining ground it was the republican party that lost an election. Goldwater’s run led to inspiring a new group of conservatives namely Ronald Reagan and all those to follow up to and thru Newt Gingrich, taking back the House and Senate, et al.

This leads me to the thought that whether John McCain wins or loses, conservatives have to stick to their core beliefs, and try to influence McCain all we can as we would any President. Try to use the mantra “LISTEN, LEARN, HELP AND LEAD” to help lead whoever is President towards our core beliefs.

Perhaps in this way we will be able to help slow the spread of this cancerous hateful rhetoric.

Wow!! I'm in Print. At least I think so.
If anyone is reading this, well---------good luck.
As you can probably see, I'm a novice at both writing and especially blogging.
My goal for doing this is to help me sort through my political thoughts on various subjects. Also I hope to learn how to better convey my thoughts to others in a more coherent way. Bounce my ideas off others and see what happens.
Alot of this will seem like I'm pontificating and I guess I am. I hope that my desire to actually take this towards doing something constructive will off set the negatives.
This will be a journey for me and I hope others will come along. Hopefully without sounding too grandiouse , we can enjoy the journey and later worry about the destination.
Here is just a taste.
Back in the day I used to be rebellious and fought the status quo, today I feel that in order to walk and talk the conservative line, one has to be a rebellious type. This to coin an old hippie phrase is the new counter culture. People who used to demonstrate were in the minority trying to right a wrong being done by the majority. Now however when people demonstrate, it is more like the majority beating down the minority. If 5 people get together at city hall and hold up a global warming sign, they'll make the news and it will be portrayed as a demonstration. Try holding up a sign saying global warming is not man made, that is a real dangerous and counter cultural thing to do.
Anyway enough for now. I have to learn how to post this.
