Delusional Times, or REVOLUTIONARY ???

John Gapper of the Financial Times wrote the most convoluted piece I’ve had the oncoming headache to read in a long time
-----link-----

---------------
Of course I read Gaper’s article after I read the piece in Townhall.com by Robert Duncan called “The GOP Has Some Fight Left” so I already was feeling a bit lost in “Wonderland”.
-----link-----
http://townhall.com/columnists/RobertMDuncan/2008/12/10/the_gop_has_some_fight_left
--------------
Both writers are missing the point of their stories. Both seem to be conjuring up visions of why the obvious should be discounted for the complicated only they understand. Perhaps it is they who are obtuse and the public (readers and voters) who are being obtuse. In the best sense of the elites of the world let’s obfuscate the obvious from the obtuse.

I hope you think that was some silly writing. That was the point. The elites will always write in glowing terms littered with big words to try to confuse the reader and detract them from the obvious message.
Since given an alternative to Mass Media, the public has chosen the alternative be it Talk Radio or the Internet. They have chosen substance over style. They decided they want to decide what news is fit to read not someone else.
I agree that I’m not going to open a Baghdad office, I’ve been know to seek out blogs out of Baghdad and tend to trust their opinions more.
As far as Duncan and his vaunted NRCC……What can I say about the condescending clap trap that entirely misses the point??

When Duncan says ----- “the voters of Louisiana embraced the conservative values of fiscal responsibility, strengthened national security and increased domestic energy production” ------ or “Mr. Cao's commitment to preserve the dignity of public office by championing comprehensive ethics reform, keeping taxes low, and providing greater accountability for Congressional spending.” Man O Man.

It only goes to show the obvious. Duncan doesn’t have a clue. I sure didn’t hear much about the efforts of Cao and his volunteers, just about the NRCC and their new and better efforts. He seems only interested in buying new computer programs and trying to phone more people than they did last election. He seems to lack the concept that people voted for Anh Cao because he did what was anathema to the “Duncans” of the world.

Cao actually did some things in the district that made people take notice because the things Cao did were helping them. Just like Bobby Jindal, Cao made a real difference in the lives of people living in his area; and like Jindal the people voted them both into office, in spite of Duncan’s effort. I think he and the voters could care less about the talking points Duncan was making.

For Duncan to think otherwise is as delusional as bailing out The Big 3 or bailing out the Mass Media. If you think the Mass Media or at least the large newspapers don’t want to be bailed out, I think Mr. Gapper in his defense of the Elites having a right to spew their snobbery wrote the following.
-----quote-----
My working assumption, in more ways than one, is that consolidation – or, more accurately, eradication – of local newspapers will strengthen the editorial position of the remaining elite: The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, the Financial Times etc.
I also assume that this elite will find some way to cover its costs. Here’s hoping, anyway.
----------------
What better way to cover it’s cost (and rear end) than a bailout??
Perhaps I’m delusional, but then again it looks like we are going through a delusional time. I'm hoping that this is the last gasp of a bureaucratic system that doesn't work and will finally let the common sense of the people make some changes to it, WITHOUT starting a revolution to do it.

"Doers of Deeds"

I’ve been following Bobby Jindal from his Katrina days. He seemed to epitomize what I’ve been trying to say in my blogs. He’s been an example of doing what I’ve been trying to say.

Whether he or I were right or wrong, what I admired was that he was a “doer” of the deed. My main point in my blogs has been based on the idea best summned up in a quote attributed to Tip O’Neal; “Politics is Personal“.

The fewer layers between politics and the people the more the people like it. The more personal it is. The better chance the voters have of seeing not only what a politician stands for; but how well he can put that into practice. The more connected to the process the People feel--Are.

Bobby Jindal had a chance to practice what he preached in the aftermath of Katrina. Remember a lot of other politicians with a lot more power had the same chance and better resources to work with but didn’t. Bobby Jindal just rolled up his sleeves and started helping people. When everyone else who should of stepped up was busy covering there backside and doing the Beltway shuffle; he leveraged what political power he had in the vacuum and started assuming leadership and got things done.
Guess what? The citizens of Louisiana made him Governor because of that.

I’ve said all this before, but one thing I missed was that during Katrina there was another “doer of deeds” who jumped in and started organizing aid and help while everyone else from Mayors to Governors to FEMA bureaucrats were being PC and covering their butts. This guy flew under my radar as well as most others’.
From an article in Politico by JOSH KRAUSHAAR & ANDY BARR |
-----link------
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1208/16336.html
---------------
From that article the following quote
-----quote-----
After Hurricane Katrina, Cao’s rebuilt law office became a hub for community organizing and assistance to hurricane victims. His experience helping to rebuild New Orleans also has important symbolic value for the GOP, which was stigmatized — particularly among minority voters — by the Bush administration’s failed response to the disaster.
-----------------
Well that “doer of deeds” was just elected in a heavily Democratic area. It was a stunning upset. By the way after Katrina, Jindal appointed Cao to a government position, I assume as a kindred spirit and later the people elected him.

All well and good. As the article pointed out, Newt Gingrich has been touting Bobby Jindal for a long time now.

The article was enlightening in what it didn’t say about the Republican efforts to recruit minority members. It didn’t say it had been a top down procedure. An example of the best of the leadership within the party trying to pick a candidate using the best methods available. Then they all got together and picked a candidate. Like the Democrats picking a popular comedian, Al Franken, to run and are hoping next to snare a well know “talking head” in Chris Matthews. We picked a football player Lynn Swann. Swann lost, Franken is losing. Matthews hasn’t lost because he hasn’t run yet.

No offense to these candidates, just to the way they are picked.

It just seems like this top down process does not connect with the people we are claiming to be recruiting. If so it is only those that will only think the way the leadership thinks. All well and good for the leadership perhaps, but for the party and the people the “bottom up” approach seems to be resonating a lot lately.
We have a chance here to beat the Dems at their own game. If we facilitate the local candidates who are proving to be the “doers” instead of supplanting them with people “we” think better represent the people then we will start letting the Cao’s and Jindal’s rise to the top.

One last thing. I’ve always liked John Boehner. He was slow in the uptake on the idea of changing the Republican message. But once he started changing he has become a real leader of the opposition. He has show cased the young conservative talent that we have in the House. He has dare I say it facilitated the fresh young minds instead of being just another obstacle to them. The above article shows again his ability to use his “bully pulpit” to advance the up and comers in our ranks. To make sure we all can see who the “Doer of Deeds” are.

Dominos Anyone?

Chambliss and Jindal Together?
I noted along with every one else about the Chambliss victory as being the result of two things.
1. Obama wasn’t on the ballot and a lower voter turnout favored Chambliss.
2. The Conservative message won over the liberal message of proven failure.
While the first was obvious. The second could be argued.
Now off Drudge I pick up this from My Way
-----link-----
http://apnews.myway.com/article/20081207/D94TPC680.html
---------------
This seems to add some fuel to the thought that the conservative message works. Also the lack of the Obama effort to get out the vote played a part. Although as in the Chambliss victory, Obama did a telephone voice recording in another losing effort. Also the terrible deeds of Jefferson had to of played a large part.
What makes me comfortable in claiming the Conservative message was as big a part in Cao’s victory will be found in the following quote from the article.
-----quote-----
“Greg Rigamer, a New Orleans political consultant, said his analysis showed turnout in predominantly white sections of the district was double that in black areas. He said that helped push Cao to victory over Jefferson, who became Louisiana's first black congressman since Reconstruction when he took office in 1991.
"This is quite a feat," Rigamer said of Cao's victory.
-------------------
Granted the Obama effect wasn’t there, but something turned out the base “double” normal. I’m saying it was the message as much as anything.

The Jindal message (I’ll paraphrase in my own terms as I understand Bobby’s) Make Do Make It Now, Make It Work. In other words, get something done. Anyway Jindal appointed Cao and endorsed him. Cao won. That alone should be enough. The conservative message was there. All the negatives of Jefferson and Nobama of course helped but without the POSITIVE conservative message, Cao would of lost. That seems apparent.

Anh Cao’s story is one of such difficulty in pursuing happiness, few Americans need face anymore, but most remember being told by their forefathers similar struggles in achieving the American Dream.

Take a look also at this link to see the scope of what the Conservative common sense get it done message will do, will resonate if it is backed by actions equal to the rhetoric.
-----link-----
http://www.lanewslink.com/
--------------
Well I’m curious not to see how the Media and the Dems will dismiss this I’m really interested in how our party big shots will join ranks and probably call it a fluke or something.
It it walks like a Ducks and quacks like a Duck, well I’m willing to call it what it is. A Republican landslide in Louisiana. A state headed by one of the “doers” of conservative deeds in America today.

Make Do With A "Big Stick"

David Brooks as usual wrote an insightful piece in the New York Times.
-----link-----
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/18/opinion/18brooks.html
---------------
David Brooks writes about the five major changes that will need to be enacted to keep our country a leader. We may quibble over the five and or the nature of the changes needed, but the fact remains that changes are needed. Mr. Brooks makes the historical case quite well that Republicans have been good reformers and the people have gone along with the changes because they were not only cautious but they were based upon the values and ideals of the people.
-----snippet-----
Two of the most prominent conservative reformers were Benjamin Disraeli and Theodore Roosevelt. Both reframed the political debate so that it was not change versus the status quo, it was unfamiliar change versus cautious, patriotic change designed to preserve the traditional virtues of the nation.
--------------------
The quote from Disraeli was superb and spot on.
-----quote-----
“In a progressive country, change is constant; and the great question is not whether you should resist change, which is inevitable, but whether that change should be carried out in deference to the manners, the customs, the laws and traditions of a people, or whether it should be carried out in deference to abstract principles, and arbitrary and general doctrines.”
-----------------
Let us make those changes in a Republican way. That in a nutshell was what I have been blogging about for awhile, ever since I listened to David Cameron of the British Conservatives. The Disraeli quote to me symbolizes the idea I’m pushing. Simply stated, the New Republican Image that is forming is not one of smaller government, but rather that image of a party that is capable of taking the abstract pipe dream Democratic ideas of “saving the world” and translate it into a workable solution to save the neighborhoods where “people” live.

We need to be the party of doers that take what authority we have and use it for the common good in very real and specific ways. While others talk and talk and talk. We need to be more like Bobby Jindal who as a State House Congressional member in Louisiana took it upon himself during Katrina and used what limited power he had as a local congressman to push some bureaucrats into action and actually get things done, while the other big shots were stuck in bureaucratic quick sand. The people of Louisiana loved him for it and voted him in as their youngest Governor. He is becoming the poster child for the New Can Do Republican.

I’ve been trying to capture the essence of this type of idea, and the picture of the old MacGyver TV show kept popping up. If you remember he was the guy that could make do with whatever was at hand and come up with the solution to the problem. His methods were quick and to the point and above all they worked. Those solutions were not the best perhaps or even the most efficient but they worked and their success led to other success’ and in the end with the burden and worry of needing to fix the problem alleviated, a better solution could be found.

I call this the “Make Do, Make It Now, Make It Work” plan.

As with the revolt over Drilling Off Shore, just the threat of it has reduced the cost at the pump. If Congress could agree to an across the board systematic attack on the reasons for the high cost then the price would plummet. We “Make Do” by drilling, then with that in hand and the government starting to get some money coming in we can start to attack on the alternative fronts. “Make It Now” will give proof that the country is serious, and the markets will heed it and they will be forced to “Make It Work”.

In the Brooks article he refers to Theodore Roosevelt and how he used Patriotism and core values to help get the country on his side with the reforms he wanted to enact. It worked. We too now have the chance to tackle this problem one step at a time building upon the success of the previous one.

We do not need national leaders to do this. We have gotten the oil drilling debate up through the ranks to the leaders and now they are finally paying attention. Not the other way around. This is the Party I like. Many Republican’s including John McCain like and say they admire Teddy Roosevelt. David Brooks put out the following quote by Roosevlet in his article linked above.
-----quote-----
“The true function of the state as it interferes in social life,” Roosevelt wrote, “should be to make the chances of competition more even, not to abolish them.”
-----------------
Once we allow the big companies to compete freely then we can start to find ways for the smaller ones to compete also. If the Big Oil Companies are truly the bottle neck or whether it is the big speculators and hedge funds etc that is the problem I would like to see McCain as the one carrying that “Big Stick” of Teddy’s to give us a “square deal”.
We need to be the ones who are making the changes and we can if we put the debate in the terms of the American values of common sense and the good old American “Can Do” Spirit.

Another Young Turk

I heard of a gutsy conservative candidate Her name is Sarah Steelman she is running for the governorship of Missouri. Below is a link to her campaign effort. This is I believe the face of the new conservative message..
-----link-----
http://www.sarahsteelman.com/media
---------------
Scroll through the videos, you’ll see the no nonsense, common sense, get things done attitude I associate with this new breed. Once the people get a taste of this attitude they start to demand more of it from leaders. My new saying for this is Make Do, Make it Now, Make it Work. She is getting all kinds of flak from not only the Democrats but her own leadership in the Republican party.

She reminds me of Bobby Jindal the way she just went ahead and did her job without the ok from the powers that be, and actually got things done.

WOW, Now I’m asking you to believe me when I say that I just found this on her sight about Bobby Jindal, (after) I posted the above. Great minds think alike. lol
-----link------
http://www.sarahsteelman.com/archives/25
----------------
If you’ve read this blog you’re familiar with how much I like Bobby. When I saw the Beck interview with Steelman, I couldn’t help but see the similarities. The article goes on to talk of other GOP Reformers who believe in conservative messages, but more than that believe in doing something about it, right now with what they have to work with. Tom Coburn, Jim DeMint, and Sarah Palin.
-----quote from the article above-----
“Her sin is in fact to belong to that new mold of Republican – Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, Sens. Tom Coburn and Jim DeMint – who know it’s no longer enough to simply hawk lower taxes. In 10 years as a state legislator and treasurer, her target has been the slothful political favor factory that’s led Republicans away from small-government principles and outraged conservative voters.”
---------------------------------------------
There is a revolution in the Republican party going on, and it is gathering steam. A revolt to get back to the ideas of more efficient government. More Transparent government, leading to a less corrupt government. Actually trying to make the government work for the people again. A get it done or don’t do it attitude, with the prime purpose to help the people. This new Republicanism shown forth through the dark of the US House of Representatives when the power to them was cut they used what they had and got the message out anyway. I’m glad to see some senior members getting onboard and leading or at least guiding the way. Like John Boehner. I was also pleased to see Pete Hoekstra from my district was out on the House floor in shorts. I think he was pleasantly reminded of the previous revolution.

My own state of Michigan has some of this new breed. Our Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land, and our Attorney General Mike Cox. They are both fighting the fight for transparency in government. They both have jumped right in and changed their respective offices along those lines, without waiting for any type of approval from the Legislature or from above in the party. My own county clerk is following the SOS lead and opening up things at the county level. There is a definite trickle down effect.
I went to a local “meet and greet” with my County Clerk, Karen Buie, and was pleasantly surprised last night when an individual came up and thanked her for her efforts that had made his visit to the Office a quick and friendly one.

What the old guard has to realize is that open honest government done with a can do attitude trickles down to the voters. It makes them happy. I really don’t see the sin in that.

I Dream of a Campout.

Still hope for action.
-----link-----
http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D91RO73O0&show_article=1
---------------
With the clout of the President and the previously mentioned momentum based on overwhelming public opinion, I still have hope that this “do nothing Congress” may yet surprise us. I’ve blogged about how a bottom up movement has kept growing and bubbled up through the system. Republican leaders got on board in the House and Senate, then McCain and Bush are finally joining too. If McCain could just gather all the threads, it would be a chance to prove his abilities and leadership. His experience with working with other leaders could be highlighted. We’ll see. We’ve always at the last moment been able to turn back the naysayer’s. Just maybe this can be the tie breaker. The President did say. “He said Congress must address this issue before it goes home.” Perhaps The President read John Boehner’s alert below.

Yesterday John Boehner sent out this alert on his web site.
-----link-----
http://republicanleader.house.gov/News/DocumentSingle.aspx?DocumentID=97030
--------------
I especially liked the fire in the belly as evidenced by the following quote from Mr. Boehner. ““I’m going to say it one more time, we need to do ‘all of the above’ if we’re serious. We can drill in an environmentally sound way, and that’s what we should be doing… We’re not going to leave here for the August recess until we get a vote on having more American-made energy.””.

Wouldn’t it not be something to see 150-200 members of Congress camped out in the House. The President and or McCain bringing food to them. People starting to gather around and bringing their own lunches. I’d organize a busload from Muskegon Michigan. Believe me I’m serious. If I see Boehner actually “camp out” in the House. I’ll get that busloaded. Can you see the signs?? “DRILL NOW, WHILE CONGRESS HIDES”.. “STICK THIS DRILL UP IRAN’S”.. “GO AHEAD WAKE UP THIS SLEEPING GIANT” “LET’S BANKRUPT OPEC” What a thing this could be. Plus meeting or seeing some of the people who started this out. Like Newt (he for sure would be there), and Dan Burton and Tim Walberg. Oh what larks that could be. Remember Bobby Jindal?? He called the Louisiana legislature back in session twice as a rookie governor. What does Bush have to lose. I don’t want just a bite out of that whole enchilada. Just IMAGINE.

I’m willing if Boehner gives us a sign. I’m sure others in the blogoshere would join with the organizing of a bottom up effort. The kind of decentralized type of thing to create our own mini Woodstock. A conservative Woodstock.Lol. Talk about what goes around comes around. We’ll hope, we’ll see.

Maybe the President read it I don’t know, hopefully McCain did. We the people are starting to. The news is getting out, now the bully pulpit of the Presidency is added. If nothing else the extra publicity will help. It is the job of our elected representatives to represent the will of their constituents. That PEW poll showed what that was without a doubt. Nice to see them doing that, standing up for us that is.

John Boehner is starting an “American Energy Tour”
-----link-----
http://republicanleader.house.gov/News/DocumentSingle.aspx?DocumentID=96880
--------------
Here are the 10 members going with him. We should be hearing more of this later. Maybe they could be the nucleus of campers. Maybe he could talk them into it.
-----list-----
NOTE: Boehner will be joined on the American Energy Tour by Reps. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), Mary Fallin (R-OK), Dean Heller (R-NV), Jim Jordan (R-OH), Doug Lamborn (R-CO), Robert Latta (R-OH), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Steve Scalise (R-LA), and Adrian Smith (R-NE).
-------------
Whatever happens I salute their efforts. John Boehner has stepped up as the leader in this. Anyone else think this is possible?

If you think this a fantasy, It may be, but I’d rather live by a positive “can do” fantasy than the negative “can’t do anything” fantasy we’re surrounded by today.

I M A G I N E

Imagine

Imagine a newly elected Governor (who happens to be the youngest ever governor) from a state that is reeling from the effects of both Katrina and FEMA . Imagine that kid standing up and recalling the opposition controlled congress back into emergency session. The imagine that same governor pushing for and getting passed one of the strongest financial disclosure bills in the country. Last week there were mass resignations from state boards and commissions. Imagine the angst boiling under the surface at this young man. I Imagine I’m starting to like this guy.

Imagine, he has only been in office 6 months. He not only did the above but he did the below. He has cut taxes 6 times, personal taxes. He got rid of the department of Labor, in it’s place guaranteeing employers that the learning institutions will train them and if not they will be retrained for free.

Imagine then that he doubled the number of charter schools, also at the same time creating 10 million in scholarships for 1500 poor children to be able to have a choice in their school. I Imagine this young man fits into my “Can Do” “Make Do, Make it Now, Make It Work” ideas. I Imagine he is writing a whole chapter in that book. A better chapter. A better analogy would be he is building a new wing on the house a better wing; as this young man is more about “doing” than he is about writing (blogging) or talking about it.

Then in his free time he Imagined that by creating “The Health Care Consumers Right to Know Act”
That transparency would for the first time in Health Care be available to the residents of that state. Then what he Imagined he made come to be.

Oh I almost forgot he vetoed 9 million in Pork barrel stuff. Imagine what the financial world thinks of them apples. Well they’re buying. The Bond rating for the state has gone up 3 times. Imagine that.

Well you no longer have to imagine. The above governor is real his name is Bobby Jindal from Louisiana. He has been touted as a possible VP for John McCain. I have mixed opinions on that. I tend to think I would rather he stay doing what he’s doing and maybe run for President in 4 or 8 years. Just Imagine what he could do in a full term or 2 as governor. On the other hand I wish some of his ideas and energy could rub off on Senator McCain. Either way in any event, I imagine this young leader would flourish, and the people he served would be the better for it.

I admit that I lifted all of this except the last paragraph from a Newt Gingrich Newsletter. Not word for word, but pretty much all the thought and facts. I tried to post a link but can't because it is an email. I can't find it on Newt's site either. But my rendition of it is pretty close. If you want a copy I'll email you one. My email is glhotdogs@verizon.net
I also admit to really liking Bobby Jindal. I wrote a couple other blogs about him.

----------------
In the above link I see I posted 4 times in the past, (Imagine that) if you scroll to the last post it will be in the order I wrote them and you’ll see my growing thought about Bobby Jindal.

My thanks go to Newt as always for being a beacon for those of us trying to find our way in these turbulent times.

Bobby Jindal. The New Conservative. ala David Cameron

Bobby Jindal makes the case for chemical castration and signs bill.
Note the other states including California that has the bill. Not in this link but in others there are other bills in the Louisiana legislature to further restrict pedophiles.

---------------
The recent Supreme Court ruling against the death penalty for child rapers, reasoned that murder was not a punishment equal to the crime. Death being irrevocable, where rape wasn’t. I personally had hoped that it was the right of the state to set the punishment. They didn’t. However as far a fitting the crime. The chemical castration or physical castration would be more appropiate. See also this video from Youtube of an interview of Bobby Jindal. He explains it better than I. Note near the end the part about the drilling in Louisiana. This guy is good. McCain could do worse. However I hope he doesn’t.

A "Two-Fer" Kinda Like Meijers

Two Topics For the Price Of One. Reminds me of Meijer’s.

Newt Gingrich gives a thumbs up to Bobby Jindal the governor of Louisiana as a good VP choice for McCain. Got the link off of Drudge
-----link-----
http://thehill.com/campaign-2008/gingrich-jindal-is-best-choice-for-vice-president-2008-06-15.html
---------------
I also have posted about Bobby. I liked the way he was a get things done kind of guy in the after math of Katrina. He wasn’t governor then, if I remember he was only in the State house, that among other things is what helped make him governor
-----2 of my other posts-----
http://conservativeinmuskegon.blogspot.com/search?q=bobby+jindal
-----------------------------
Here is a quote from Bobby Jindal. It is Jindal’s simple theory: “If you want to discourage something, tax it. If you want to encourage it, don’t tax it.” Gee -- I think I like that.
His whole approach to problem solving fits in with mine. Just wade in and start solving the problems with what’s at hand, get the process started, get the people working towards the goal and allow them to correct their mistakes as they happen. Because they will happen. Facilitate this kind of problem fixing. Nike had the right idea, “JUST DO IT”
Below is a link that’s saying all of the top candidates for VP for either Obama or McCain, aren’t interested. The link is from Newsmax. I actually hope Bobby does what he says and stays in Louisiana. He can get things done there, he can showcase his talents, and hone his talents. He would be good for the ticket come election time, but what a waste of talent.

---------------

Switching gears but along the same road there is the following link
-----link-----
http://apnews.myway.com/article/20080615/D91AIUPG1.html
---------------
It is about Democrats calling Joe Lieberman an attack dog for the Republicans. Lieberman is an independent who votes mainly Democrat on issues, he caucus‘s with the Dems. But calling him an attack dog, I would call that a personal attack. All Joe did was disagree with Obama about his position towards Israel. I’m glad I’m not a Democrat. I would have to worry that if I said anything against the party line, I would be shunned and personally attacked. As a Republican I take great joy in calling my leaders names. I guess I owe the Democrats for making my skin a little thicker. Without that I would go into a tirade every time someone didn’t agree with me. I would waste a lot of time that could be spent getting things done. Look at the Democrat congress and how much time they spend on tirades. How many impeachment motions have they come up with. How many investigations have they tried to start. How many things like the Fairness Doctrine are they trying to get passed????? How many attempts at de-funding the war have they tried? What have they actually accomplished ??? All they can do is blame their lack of leadership on the Minority party for disagreeing with them. They are the party in charge for crying out loud. They are the ones who should be leading the charge on the high cost of gas for example. The Republicans finally got off their butts, and are taking the initiative. No wonder Congress’s rating is lower than the Presidents. The American people aren’t as stupid and gullible as some of the leadership (in both parties) in Congress thinks.

The Republicans are starting to get the picture. Finally I haven’t heard much from Tom Cole lately, I hope he has been chastised and tries to change his ways. Like I say we have a chance here to seize the moment and run with it. We have a chance to turn this thing around. If the leaders don’t like it we need to go around them. We are starting to resonate with the public. There isn’t time for foot dragging and politics as usual. Cole is keeping quiet, hope he brings his talent to the effort just leaves the attitude at home. John Boehner is doing this in the House, Boehner is showing what a leader should be doing. Fighting skirmishes as a delaying tactic while marshalling what forces he can to win some smaller battles and make the case to the public. It is from the public that parties gain their strength their mandate.

I blame the Tom Cole’s and Elizabeth Dole’s of the Senate for squandering the progress we as a Party had made and were making bringing all people into our way of thinking by our actions, not just our talking. We had great African American leaders and were propelling them into power. Collin Powell, JC Watts, Michael Steele, the journalists like Walter Williams and my favorite Thomas Sowell, Condi. People of that stature and character were starting to crack the Democratic stranglehold on the African American vote. With Bill Cosby talking of values ect. Republicans were making headway. We, all Republicans were starting to earn back the American trust. Then our leaders let success beguile them. They started to become elite, they started breaking promises implied and actual. Again I use the treatment of Keith Butler as the epitome of their “country club” condescending “we know better than you” attitude. I started losing the trust I had in the leadership of the Republican party at that point. With George and his whole Big Government thing I lost more. As a conservative I nearly went the route of Ron Paul. A third party idea kept sounding better and better or at least the only option I had left. Then as I dug into the politics of the situation, I saw that there were other people like myself but way more influential. People within the Party. The Bush thing is over and it is plain to see outside of Iraq, it didn’t work. AT ALL. For “compassion” to work as a force it has to ACTUALLY solve problems, not make them worse. Bush’s compassion seemed to just be a cave-in to liberal ideas which had created the problems in the first place, and didn’t work then. Just made government bigger. It works less well now.

A Real Fistful of Truth, I missed yesterday

I usually don’t post again this quickly, but I missed McCain’s speech in New Orleans, yesterday.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/06/mccains_speech_in_new_orleans_1.html
--------------
Looks like John has decided to come out swinging. I can’t help but relate what my previous post was about to this speech. The idea that truth is such a novel idea recently in politics. More to the point John McCain is telling it like it is. While he lacks that certain finesse and nuance the pundits go ga ga over, I get the feeling he is shooting from the hip. The real tenor of his campaign and his soul has been put out there. The gauntlet thrown down. Not just for the other side but for the Republican leadership as well. I believe he is saying this is the campaign, this is what I‘m going after, what I believe in. Join with me, and we can win this thing. He has held his water well and if this speech is a portent of the things to come he has used his time well, while the Dems had their catfight.

John McCain has a chance here to lay out a new conservative agenda, by the sounds of his speech he has kept his ear to the ground and is using the best of the British Conservative and the Newt Gingrich models. The message he has had, but the delivery is where he has learned.
-----quote from speech------
“The right change recognizes that many of the policies and institutions of our government have failed. They have failed to keep up with the challenges of our time because many of these policies were designed for the problems and opportunities of the mid to late 20th Century, before the end of the Cold War; before the revolution in information technology and rise of the global economy. The right kind of change will initiate widespread and innovative reforms in almost every area of government policy -- health care, energy, the environment, the tax code, our public schools, our transportation system, disaster relief, government spending and regulation, diplomacy, the military and intelligence services. Serious and far-reaching reforms are needed in so many areas of government to meet our own challenges in our own time.”
-----------------------------------
Wishful thinking abounds after reading the speech. I realize I’m making connections where none probably exist, but what the hey. Here they come.

The obvious connection to the “new modern conservatism” being created in England, see my side bar (Updates Across the Pond) In the same side bar I recently noted that the marketing guru for Cameron’s conservative message is coming to the US for 6 months, coincidence?

This kick off speech was given in New Orleans La. Is that too a coincidence? Bobby Jindal the young, confident, get things done, “Bottom up Politics” kind of guy from the British model happens to be Governor of Louisiana ! Also happened to be invited to visit John McCain and rumored to be on his short list for VP! Below a link to what I posted about Bobby before.

--------------
Newt Gingrich has also been tirelessly preaching in his own way the same kind of change in his book Real Change and a long time before that in many other efforts. If you check out his American Solutions web site and from there his others, you will see he has been doing more than preaching.

My real wishful thinking concept is that the leadership of the Republicans whole heartedly get behind this message and that John McCain does also. Mainly I’m afraid of the message not getting out. For this to work, look at Britain. It works there because they have a strong leader, who LET the message go to his head.! Also a bunch of young turks willing to work at it.

Sen. Obama and the Dems by trying to link President Bush to John McCain, have given John the opportunity the opening needed to show the obvious to the world. It has been obviously clear to most the differences. In the Media’s hatred for Bush they have praised McCain for all the times he has gone against “his” President and party for that matter.

He has been praised for his fight against earmarks. For his bipartisan efforts from Immigration to global warming. The Media is already hard at it to cover their tracks. It is also as obvious from Obama’s short record that he is the most liberal, pro big government senator in the Senate. John McCain points this out by saying the big government idea doesn’t work and he is the only one who has actually been fighting it. Not just talking about it. It doesn’t much matter where he picked up those ideas, what matters is that the gloves are coming off, what also matters is that the truth is plain to see. Lucky for Obama that he has so much money, he will need to remain lucky, for he will not win on words alone.

BOBBY JINDAL, WHO IS THAT ??

Bobby Jindal. WHO is that?

I started following Bobby since I first heard of him from his failed bid then his election to the US House, and then fell in love with him during the whole mess of Katrina. He seemed one of the silver linings in that dark cloud. Not much was made mention of his efforts during that traumatic time. He was always on the edges of the news. Others were in the spotlight. Like Sean Penn rowing a boat, the national guard helping a pollitician scurry back to save his slush money, and the media making sure people were able to see the misery up close and personal. Well Bobby was doing what he has always done. He brought his positive can do attitude or better yet the selfless what can I do attitude to the mess. Then with what little power as a member of the US House he had he was able to use it to make a dent in the bureaucratic mess unfolding in his state. In his heart he knew what I’m just learning, Actually helping people directly has become almost illegal, in most cases it is. The next election, the people of Louisiana recognized what he did if the Mass Media wouldn’t and elected him governor. The article I linked is a long read but it fleshes out quite well the man I call Bobby Jindal. I lifted it from The Red State blog they from The Criticle. The author is Ben Domenech.

I’m glad to see McCain has him on the list as a possible running mate. I got the link off of Drudge, see my side bar, “Old Standby Links“.

He fits all the Politically Correct requirements the pundits condescendingly say McCain needs. You know the ones that have to do with counteracting the perceived age problem and let’s just say “diversity appeal”. Even because of all that I would urge McCain to select him lol. The one thing in Bobby’s favor I think is that he is not the flamboyant type, he won’t be trying to steal the spotlight. He’s my favorite kind of person, he’s a doer. The article below shows what he does and some of what I’ve said. I hope John McCain can see the common ground they both share in their get things done no earmark attitude, which is labeled in the Media as their Maverickness. It would be a great political risk for Sen. McCain to take, besides all the chance for negative punditry, there would be the risk of Bobby out shining John in the Media’s eyes. But then great leaders are sure enough of themselves and their ideas that they are willing to take gambles. If, the Next President of the United States wants someone by his side that will help him do what is possible to fight the bureaucracy to make government work, then I would urge John McCain to pick Bobby Jindal for his right hand man. His major drawbacks seem to be that Bobby is quiet, borders on genius, dislikes obstacles to getting things done. The list is long. Lol. I think though that I could over look them. The question is can the people who run those obstacles allow him to run? He was bad enough in Louisiana , dare they allow him loose in Washington. The article below once you get past the agenda stuff sprinkled here and there is really good about the abilities of Bobby Jindal and an excellent depiction of the problems of unlimited Bureaucracy run wild showcased by the catastrophe that was Katrina.
